CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00
Report from Eldey: What un impressive tour. We departed from Reykjavik port under clear skies and calm seas heading towards the open waters. On our first thirty minutes we encountered our first humpback whale. We stead with it for a little while until we spotted a pot of 4 white beaked dolphins that were pretty playful. We continued our journey towards two more humpback whales that where feeding together with a pot of 5 white beaked dolphins. After this amazing show we started heading back. On our way to the port we came across 2 harbor purposes and a minke whale as well that made our tour memorable from the start to finish.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 11:00
Report from Hafsulan: We sailed out enjoying the sunshine and clear blue skies. It did not take us long before we came across one humpback whale. This whale was very feeding focused and gave us many shows of its fluke! While waiting in anticipation for out humpback to surface we came across a pod of six white beaked dolphins. These dolphins gave us a nice show and came close to the boat to inspect us. They even swam underneath us! After another great surface sequence from our humpback we did a loop to see who else was around. There were even many groups of Atlantic puffins which are always wonderful to see. We came across a second pod of ten white beaked dolphins. This pod was even more playful and gave us a fantastic show with many jumps and even racing around the boat! We could easily track then under the water and see their entire bodies moving through the waves. With two pods of dolphins and one humpback, we had a great morning!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00
Report from Eldey: What a weather, clear sky and just a bit of wind from the north. Just after a short travel we spotted 2 humpback whales swimming together. As it turned out, it appeared to be a mother with her much smaller calf. They were traveling quite fast near the surface and went for a spectacular simultaneous fluke dive. We left them, since there were a few other boats around and we spotted the blow of another humpback several hundred meters away. We approached the animal and got a good look at it as it rolled and went for a deeper dive showing its fluke. Another humpback surfaced nearby and so we decided to switch out attention to this newcomer to the round. Some nice blows and fluke dives later, the slender and fast silhouette of a minke whale caught our attention and we managed to get a good look at this nimble creature before we had to head back to the harbor. With all these fantastic sightings it was a tour to remember.

Report from Eldey: The weather got even better since the wind calmed down a little. As we made our way to the area where we spotted the whales before, we saw the blows of several humpback whales in the distance. But they all where quite far apart and so we had to choose one to approach first. We got closer to 2 humpback whales that swam together. As it turned out it was our friends from the tour before, the mother and her calf. Since they seemed a bit shy this time, we left them after a short time. We continued our search and got into an area where again several blows could be seen. Again we got closer to 2 more humpbacks that swam together. This time they were of similar size and busy feeding. Also 2 white-beaked dolphins joined in, but disappeared after just a few splashes on the surface. They changed their direction quite often and so we focused on another humpback again just a few hundred meters away. As we had to make our way back home, we had again around 6 humpback whales in visible distance around us. It was another great tour that showed what Faxafóí has to offer.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 20:30
Report from Eldey: Our last tour of the day was an outstanding one. For the first half of the tour, it was a challenge to to hang around with the whales, as even though we had found quite a few humpback whales, they were only coming to the surface for one or two breaths, before deep diving again for long periods of time. However, our luck increased in the second half of the tour, where we arrived in an area where between 4 and 6 humpbacks were feeding and socializing, showing incredible behaviours like breaches and tail-slaps. Besides this species, every now and then we´d get surprised by minke whales, that would surface right in front of us, before rapidly diving again. Eventually, we started heading back to Reykjavík, accompanied by calm seas and amazingly beautiful orange sky.
