CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: The morning was grey and rainy, but the wind was very light and the seas smooth as we started our sail out in the bay. Everyone was calm and inside, enjoying a hot drink to warm up on this rainy day. After some time a blow was spotted, and it was a humpback whale! As we got closer we could see its fluke going down for a deeper dive. Then it appeared again and put a whole show for us, it started to breach repeatedly, then started to peduncle throw a few times, and then even rolled and slapped its pectoral fin on the water surface. It was incredible!! We eventually continued the trip to give the whale some space, as we try to never overstay our welcome to also respect the animals as it should be done when whale watching. As we continued we encountered another blow in the distance, there was about 3 humpback whales in this area, we focused on one and observed it for a few breathing sequences. As we were about to move on it started to peduncle throw, there was a few more vessels around, we believe it might have been annoyence so we decided to move on as it we already so it very well. On the way back to the harbour we observed another humpback whale. The bay was full of life and we were all glad with this amazing tour!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 11:00

Report from Hafsulan: We left the harbour in drizzling overcast weather, headed into the bay hoping to see cetaceans. It didn't take us long to spot our first blow and fluke in the distance, our first humpback whale sighting of the tour! A lovely calm individual, going for some deeper dives, showing us its beautiful fluke. All of a sudden, a big splash in the distance, a breaching humpback! We quickly headed over to check it out, and were treated to some more lovely fluke dives. Our humpback gave us four breaches total which was amazing to see! usually! We headed towards yet another blow of a humpback in the area, and it turned out to be our first individual back again. We also caught a glimpse of an elusive minke whale before it quickly disappeared. With flukes galore and two humpbacks providing us with multiple views we had a great start to our day!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We continued to experience a true Icelandic summer weather on the afternoon tour! The drizzle turned into a heavy rain at some point, but we were packed with overalls, raincoats and hot drinks and we were ready to go! We took about an hour into the tour to see our first whale: a humpback whale that was calm on the surface and doing deep dives. Couple of minutes after, we spotted another whale and we decided to check it out. Getting closer, it was another humpback, but with a pod of 2-3 white-beaked dolphins around! We watched as they beautifully interact, sharing the food and having fun. Indeed, this humpback was the very well known Davy Jones, a very sociable individual! It was rolling and doing a peduncle throw afterwards, but we decided to continue our way since more boats have arrived. So off we went, already amazed with so many things happening! We ended up seeing 2 more humpbacks in the same area, sometimes very close to each other! One even made another peduncle throw. Then we moved on to 2 more humpback whales, so already at least 5 humpback whales for us. As we were watching the 2 humpbacks we saw a dark back not far from there and all of a sudden we were in an area with about 3 minke whales, and 2 of them came close to the boat giving us a good look at it! We came back to Reykjavík with hot drinks on our hands and happy to have seen so many different behaviours and interactions!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 15:00

Report from Hafsulan: We set sail all bundled up and ready for whales. It did not take long until we saw a blow, our first humpback whale of the tour! We got a nice, close look at this whales beautiful fluke. In total we had 4 humpbacks (and a quite sneaky minke whale popping up on occasion), but the real star was known crew favourite, Davy Jones! Davy gave us a real treat with some bubble-net feeding paired with some lunge dives at least three times! Just when we were about to say hi to another humpback, he decided to give us quite a jumpscare, by surfacing with a big blow right next to the boat! Everyone rushed over to get a close look, which he rewarded by showing us a beautiful stream of bubbles! This successfully distracted us, while he snuck under the boat to appear suddenly on the other side, this time in a pair with another humpback! What a show from this charming whale!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 20:30

Report from Háfsulan: Today we had an incredible tour! Even though it wasn´t sunny, there was almost no wind and the ocean was quite flat. We had a weak rain in the beginning but that didn´t stop us to look for some whales. Right after leaving the port we found 2 minke whales. Even though they are generally a bit shy, we were able to stay with them for a while. However, we decided to leave and look for something bigger. Ten minutes later, we end up on an area full of humpback whales. There were blows all around us. In total we counted between 7 or 8, and even 2-3 white beaked dolphins joined them. The humpbacks were very focused on feeding, so we had a great show of flukes but also lunge feeding and bubble feeding. It was magical! However, we were running out of time and we finally headed back to the port enjoying the view of the blows against the beautiful mountains. This tour was definitely something that everyone, including me, will remember.
