CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 9:00
Report from Eldey: This morning we sailed onto a beautiful sea. After some time on the boat we spotted our first humpback whale of the day. This was a particularly curious individual which stayed next to us for a long time. It came so close to our boat that we could smell its breath in each blow (not very good by the way - quite fishy). It also showed us its beautiful fluke by doing a fluke slap and multiple fluke dives. After saying good bye, we continued sailing until we found our second humpback whale of the day. The blows in the distance with the volcano in the background created a beautiful scenery as we approached. After observing the whale and taking some pictures we started our way back to the port.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00
Report from Eldey: We started our journey with clear skies and calm seas. Sailed out to the open waters that we spotted 2 humpback whales both solitary less than 500m away one from the other. They where both feeding. One of them came really close was really friendly and curious. After not more than 5 minutes at least 7 white beaked dolphins that they were hunting expressively close to our humpback friend. We happily stayed with them for long as we could. We said goodbye after a nice fluke dive and we started our way back to the Reykjavik port.

Bird species seen today:
eider duck, common guillemot, black guillemot, Northern fulmar, great and lesser black backed gull, razorbill, Artic tern, Altantic puffin
Wildlife encountered today:

The Humpback Whale is quite spectacular undergoing the longest migration of any mammal (5176miles/8334km one way), attracting females by singing to them and of course their energetic nature. On many occasions humpbacks have been seen breaching, tail slapping, fin slapping, blowing bubbles and spy hopping just to mention a few. The humpback is also one of the larger whales we encounter

The white-beaked dolphin is the most common dolphin found in the surrounding waters of Iceland and is seen not only in the summer but winter too usually in larger numbers, hundreds sometimes. When feeding they show energetic behaviour such as breaching out of the water and coming down with a big splash and bursts of fast swimming.
