CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: Today the sea conditions were amazing. With the swell almost zero, we could spot any dark back even from a distance! We started sailing out in the bay, and short after we left the harbour, we encountered 2 harbour porpoises! We continued and got to an area full of birds everywhere, very calm. We saw about 3 minke whales there, all of them very calm as well. We started heading back to the coast when we spotted more harbour porpoises, about 3 of them. But something else caught our eye when we came close to Lundey, one of the puffin islands: a humpback whale! This one was extremely calm, logging on the surface and even floating close to our boat, allowing us to even count the barnacles next to its blowhole - that's how close it was! All of a sudden, it disappeared for a minute, until it breached in front of us!!! With this amazing view, we left this whale but spotted another humpback close to Videy island. We could only see this one from a distance once, when it showed the fluke, deep diving. We had big smiles on our faces and the sun started to shine as we sailed back home.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 11:00

Report from Hafsulan:  we sailed out this morning knowing that our cetaceans friends wouldn't be too far, as reported by the other boats. Arriving slightly further than the islands around Reykjavik, our first sighting appeared: a resting humpback whale, seemingly a juvenile, hovering around in a deep resting state. For over an hour we got to see it come up and down slowly multiple times, with some small attempts at fluke diving. Eventually, it even rolled and slapped its pectoral fins before going back to its sleep. We later headed back towards the islands of Viðey and Engey, as a report of another sighting had been done there, but without much chance for us. After getting a great look at the puffins and their nesting grounds, we went back to our humpback friend for one last look before heading home, concluding one of the calmest tours we've had in a while.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The sea was really flat today and the sun was out. Eldey headed out to a spot close to the coast just outside of Reykjavik, where sources told us that there might be a whale. After a successful morning in the same area, we decided to check it out. 1 humpback whale appeared from the deep and came fairly close to the boat. Since the sea was flat we could see the whale under the water really well. The individual was also rolling a bit and we could see the pectorial fins coming out of the water. It made some beautiful fluke dives too. After spending quite some time with this individual, we left when the other boats arrived and slowly sailed back to the harbour.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 17:00

Report from Hafsúlan: on one of our last tours of the bay, we sailed out far in the bar and ready to see some cetaceans! The sky was blue and the sun was slowly showing that the day was coming to an end. We spotted many seabirds on the way and very happy with so many puffins around! We spotted 2 harbour porpoises and then bigger couple of fins later on! We had about 7 white-beaked dolphins coming close to us, but continuing their way, which made us continue ours. When coming back to the harbour, we spotted a big blow, not far from the coast! It was a humpback whale that was going for beautiful dives, very calmly swimming and showing us the fluke. We even tracked it through the surface many times because of the pectoral fins, but surely what was giving this whale position was its loud blow every time it came for a breath! We then said goodbye to this whale, appreciating the sun on our back, while we sailed out home.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 20:30

Report from Eldey: We started our trip with a very light wind and smooth seas. First off we need noticed 2 pods of harbour porpoises, they were pods of 2 to 4 individuals but only seen a few times by very few people. After a ride deep into the bay we spotted our first species, a pod of 4 to 5 white beaked dolphins. We could say with the dolphins for a while. We decided then to move on to another area where we had some wildlife before, and there it was, 2 humpback whales. As we approached we could observe some beautiful fluke dives, and the pattern underneath their tail fin. We observed them for a long time, the whales were traveling very calmly on the surface. We slowly ran out of time and made our way back toward reykjavik under the beautiful icelandic non setting sun.
