CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00
Report from Eldey: The seas were very calm and the sun shone bright while a moderate wind blew our way. We did hot have to search too long before we found our first cetacean of the day; namely a humpback whale! We could see it make a big splash some distance away but as we got closer it became clear that now it was taking some rest. It moved very slowly and surfaced regularly, sometimes really close to us. We eventually moved onwards to give this whale some peace and quiet but after a big loop in the bay we did not manage to find any other signs of wildlife. That was no issue however as we were able to end our tour on a high note. We stopped by the same whale, now clearly more active and awake, just for a bit longer as it had moved even more towards the direction of the harbour. This made the perfect ending to our morning trip at sea!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00
Report from Eldey: We ventured out into an even calmer Faxaflói with the sun in our face this afternoon. We kept our eyes open for the whale from this morning, but we were greeted with an active pod of 7-10 white-beaked dolphins instead who had a very small calf in tow! We spent some time with these dolphins, watching them show off their agility in the water with some small leaps here and there. Then, we continued on further and were greeted briefly by a lone minke whale who surfaced next to us before disappearing just as quickly as it arrived. We sailed around for a little while longer before encountering another pod of white-beaked dolphins! Then, we headed back to harbour with the sunshine lighting up the journey home!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 17:OO
Report from Eldey: We headed out of port to pristine weather with clear skies and very calm waters, perfect conditions for spotting whales. Heading out into the bay, we spotted our first blow, belonging to the first humpback whale of the tour. It was a familiar fluke, Bubbles, a well known and often spotted whale in the area. Bubbles gave us quite a show, changing direction quickly and swiftly, splashing on the surface. We then spotted another blow on the horizon and headed towards the second humpback sighting of the evening. This individual was acting quite peculiar, rolling onto its side, giving us a great view of its pectoral fins and fluke. On the way back to the harbour, we saw many blows in the distance and even spotted a pod of white-beaked dolphins, jumping and splashing playfully.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 20:30
Report from Eldey: this evening the sun was still up, with clear skies ready to welcome us for our last tour of the day. The sea was very calm, and with these conditions we easily spotted a minke whale passing by! We then sailed out a bit more into the bay and we saw a blow in the distance. It belonged to a humpback whale, that was always going for deep dives and showing the fluke every time it would come up. Then, it started to created multiple fluke prints on the water, this very round shape movement on the surface, also helping us to track where it would pop up next! It was great to see it several times, and this whale was very fast as well. We then said goodbye to this individual and started our way back to Reykjavik, always admiring the beautiful midnight sunset behind us.
